Open Call- Something Like a Film Festival 2027

The 2027 SLFF invites you to submit your film to the spring edition of our oldest festival.  Since 2011, SLFF has advocated for the visibility and acknowledgement of diverse cinema. During the two annual editions, SLFF will showcase a very large number of documentaries, experimental cinema, and multidisciplinary projects. All films above 10 minutes qualify for a slot. 

The festival’s dedicated focus on South Asian cinema means we are on the lookout for new films from within the region. We further invite projects from across the ‘Global South’ and the rest of the world. SLFF welcomes fiction, documentary, experimental, and multidisciplinary films from filmmakers working across different forms and styles. 

SLFF 2027 Spring Edition will be held between 6th to 8th March.

Submission Guidelines

• Eligible films must be under 30 minutes and at least 10 minutes long.
• Films must have been completed after 30 January 2024.
• Films published online are not eligible.
• No screening fee is provided.
• All submissions should be made via FilmFreeway.

SLFF is open for student films. Films completed between 2025 onwards from across Asia are eligible for the Best Student Film Award. A new award for Nepali Student films is now on offer from this edition. 

Awards & Recognition

• Best Student Film

Films completed after January 2026 as part of a School project. Should be between 20 – 30 minutes in length. Open for Documentary, fiction and experimental projects. 

• Best Documentary Award

Provided to debutante documentary films. 

• Best Nepali Student Film Award

This category of submission is Open only to Nepali films. Films should have been made within the last 12 months (after January 2026). Applicants should provide a personal profile and accurate contact information. 

• Best Short Fiction Award

Provided to short fiction projects between 5 – 15 minutes in length. Animations may be submitted as part of this category. 

• Audience Choice Award

Provided to the most popular film, celebrating the ultimate favorite movie as voted on directly by the public.
