Women in Cinema
Companionship
Since 2018 Docskool represents one half of a partnership aimed at supporting professional support to women filmmakers.
The Women in Cinema Support is a fellowship and grant provided to filmmakers working mostly in their debut fiction or documentary feature project. This initiative covers the larger South Asia region and complements Docskool’s Clinik.Kathmandu labs in doing so.
Who is it for?
- Women/ Queer Filmmakers working on debut fiction or documentary projects
- Filmmakers who will benefit from professional exposure at labs, festivals and other talent oriented platforms.
- Filmmakers who are in need of a safety umbrella based on the nature of the material they are working on.
What is on offer
- Yearlong companionship support to jointly help produce a film under development. Project development advisory, recommendations, travel grants (if needed).
- Support to build local and regional alliances with feminist platforms as support mechanisms in case of risk.
- Seed Grant to projects in need of small grants to complete the production.
How to approach this support?
- Many filmmakers apply to either the Script Lab or Documentary Lab of the Clinik.Kathmandu program.
- Contact us directly if you think you meet any of the criteria above and you think we could be of help.
- Recommend a friend, filmmaker who is in need of professional companionship or safety related support.
Who should avoid applying right away
The program is not suited to engage with student filmmakers at the moment.
