Conducted during the Covid 19 pandemic, this research questions male gaze in Nepal’s cinema and how women have been traditionally portrayed. The research team performed several tests to see if women had agency in the film, and the motif behind her presentation. Close to 40 films made between 1961 to 2020 have been reviewed by the research.
This document presents one of first close peek into otherwise lesser explored side to Nepali cinema. The book is equally effective in providing a historical tour of Nepal’s cinema and the various policies that have affected growth of cinema in Nepal. The concluding remarks makes clear references to the federal context and how the different tier governments can supplement cinema growth including respectful representation of all sexes.
