Welcome to Nepal’s first home-brewed Queer Film Festival! Queer Festival, is Kathmandu’s window into the rainbow-colored world of LGBTQIA+ stories.
We are delighted to present a vibrant mix of documentaries, feature films, shorts, and multimedia projects as Nepal’s first Queer film festival this December. Being hosted at the Kathmandu Film Center, QFK proposes a platform for exchange of ideas and celebration of queer expression not confined by heteronormative discourse.
As a festival QFK fosters a platform to share and explore, providing recognition to systemically disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ voices. We are open for films made in the remotest of productions to feature projects which dismantle, raise a voice on contemporary queer culture.
QFK has been designed on the basis of queer cinema programming’s held by Docskool over the years. Its decisive shape took form through a joint consensus amongst Queer activists, filmmakers at the 2023 ‘Something Like a Film Festival’, where an independent Queer film festival was proposed.
Join the QFFK movement! Experience powerful films, engage in lively discussions, be part of building a space we all relate to. As believers of cinema’s passionate touch to spark meaningful dialogues, to celebrate, rejoice and punctuate key questions when needed – the festival is here to reimagine existing cultural spaces in the city.
Queer Film Festival Kathmandu is hosted by Docskool in partnership with Movies that Matter, the festival partners with LOOM(a feminist cohost from Kathmandu).
Programs:
Queer Film Festival Kathmandu will feature films within the following program segments:
– Lived experiences,
– Identity Power Politics (historical role of Queer community),
– Celebration of Queer culture,
– Restored Archive cinema, and
– Celebration of the body
Collaborate with us
The festival in its toddler year needs all possible support to happen. Join us in attendance, but also by designing joint programs, as an intern/ volunteer to the communications and programming unit. We are also looking for partner organisations willing to fund parts of our festival so more filmmakers can be in attendance.
