Celebrating Queer Identity and Diversity through the Power of Cinema.

The event is scheduled for (Date): 13-14 October 2023, Kathmandu.

Queer’23,” the upcoming festival, a side event of the Kathmandu festival organized by Something Like a Film Festival (SLFF). However, it is currently undergoing a transition to become an independent festival and has set its sights on curate its own festival by 2024.

The term “queer” is used as an umbrella term to encompass a wide range of sexual orientations and gender identities that deviate from the societal norms of heterosexuality and gender identity.

· Queer’23 is a celebration of rich tapestry of Queer Identity, beyond traditional notion, it recognizes queer identity and celebrates different cultures, communities and individuals.

· Exploring Diversity in Cinematic Narratives: Serves as a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds and films that explore queer narratives to come together and share their stories, experiences and artistic expressions. This initiative recognizes the importance of representation and inclusivity in the film industry, as well as the power of storytelling to foster understanding and empathy.

· Perspectives in Contemporary Culture : Embrace contemporary perspectives to foster a deeper understanding of the complexities and nuances of queer identity in the modern world is its prime charm, so that we can celebrate queer culture and create an inclusive society that respects and values diversity and address the unique challenges faced by queer individuals who belong to multiple marginalized groups.

· Queer Spaces: Queer’23 recognizes the importance of safe and inclusive spaces for queer individuals and LGBTQ+ community in the world. It highlight the importance of creating environments where individuals can express themselves freely and authentically explore their own identities.

The event will feature dedicated spaces where attendees can connect, share experiences, and build a sense of community. These spaces will serve as a refuge from discrimination and prejudice, allowing individuals to express themselves freely and authentically.

· Gender Fluidity and Gender Non-Conformity: Showcasing such films it strives to shed light upon the existing traditional societal norms and stereotypes surrounding gender and sexuality. This festival aims to promote dialogue and encourage critical thinking about these issues which cultivate understanding and acceptance within society and defy traditional expectations.

Queer’23 welcomes all film enthusiasts, activists and filmmakers to attend Queer’23 and celebrate vibrant world of cinema , queer identity and contemporary culture, with SLFF. Movements towards more inclusive and accepting world.
