FILMMAKER AT RISK SUPPORT

Docskool’ emergency support to Filmmakers can help if you are facing one of the following risks :

Your Life is under threat because you are a filmmaker/ culture worker. (this could be because of a film or because you are a vocal advocate about something)
You or your loved one is being targeted with hate speach and death threat.
You are in need of urgent relocation

(Available to Nepal and the South Asian region including Myanmar and Afghanistan)

चलचित्रकर्मी भएको कारण तपाई वा तपाईको परिवारजनको जिवन खतरामा छ वा सामाजिक वहिस्कार जस्ता तरिका अपनाएर चरत्र हत्या गरिन्दैछ भने हामिलाई सम्पर्क गर्नसक्नुहुनेछ। यो सहयोग अन्तर्गत हामि तपाईलाई सुरक्षित स्थान मा स्थानान्तरण गर्ने प्रयत्न गर्नेछौं।

What is this?

Filmmakers and cultural workers are increasingly being targetted by state and non state actors in recent times. This might have to do with popularity of online video – but it is not.

Filmmakers, express feelings in ways that are well suited to them. The constitutional of Nepal gives filmmakers right to express their minds freely, without being under any subordination. Neither the state(government) itself nor any person/ entity can take this right away from filmmakers. Filmmakers are aware of the limitation this right comes with, and act responsibly.

Docskool’s Support to Filmmakers at Risk is active only in instance of filmmakers facing life threats or if change in social, political situations suddenly make them primary targets. We often find documentary filmmakers to be under such risks, though fiction filmmakers too can be threatened.

This support was created in the aftermath of the Taliban Crisis in Afghanistan and the Violent Military takeover in Myanmar. Docskool has provided support to filmmakers in both instances.

What will Docskool do?

If contacted Docskool will find a well suited strategy with you and a person/ institution around you who can be of immediate assistance. We will try to take you to safety based on the strategy created.

Docskool does not disperse funds as part of this support neither does it receive any request for financial grant. All support is non financial and transactions will be maintained by Docskool alone.

चलचित्रकर्मी माथि उन्को कामका कारण कुनै पनि हमला हुनु असामान्य र गैर कानुनि हो। यद्धपि विभिन्न न्यु पारेर चलचित्रकर्मी माथि नियमित हमला हुने गरेको पाईन्छ। सो को न्युनिकरण का लागि पहिलो कदम भनेको चलचित्रकर्मीहरुको स्थानिय समुह, संगठन निर्माण गर्नु हो।

यो सहयोग परियोजना अन्तर्गत डकस्कुलले कुनै आर्थिक सहयोग गर्दैन। सहयोगका निमित्त लाग्ने खर्च डकस्कुलले आफै वा आफ्नो सहकर्मी संघ संस्था मार्फत स्रोत जुटाउछ।
